CYPHER

Formed in 2021, DJ duo Cypher specialise in Breaks, UK Bass and experimental electronic music. The duo consists of members Jake and Tommy who collectively have over 20 years of experience in the music industry. The pair first met through their love of radio broadcasting which led to the collaboration and saw them being part of the team that has helped Select Radio get to where it is to.

Jake has a background in audio engineering and started DJing with vinyl as a teenager, playing Jungle, Drum & Bass and Garage on legendary pirate radio stations around London such as Soundz FM and Impact FM. Aside from radio, Jake also has experience working for the BBC and currently is the Technical Director at Select Radio. He also helps radio stations across the UK with his company STS Broadcast.

Tommy started his music journey as an MC on various radio stations such as Delight FM and Taste FM as well as being signed to infamous garage label D.E.A under the guidance of DJ Para and R Lally. Fast forward to today the co-founder of Select is now one of the key members helping our station grow into the UK’s number one for electronic music

Their musical influences stem from the early Drum & Bass labels they grew up with such as Moving Shadow, RAM Records and Metalheadz. Then through their pirate radio days, their love for UK Garage with producers Sunship, Artful Dodger, M Dubs, MJ Cole, Anthill Mob, and Wookie.

As the pair are always looking for new sounds, they developed a taste for Electro & Progressive House which at the time wasn’t getting much airplay on underground radio stations.

Experimenting with different sounds on their show, they have now found their new love for bass music, showcasing sounds based on the roots of their origin

Cypher’s tri-weekly show is Saturday 9-11pm where they showcase bass-heavy cutting-edge electronic music with plenty of banter in between
