Based in Surrey in the UK. Mark James is a DJ whose career spans over four decades, built on an enduring passion for house, Balearic and underground club culture. His journey began in 1983 with his first trip to Ibiza, inspired by pioneers like José Padilla and Alfredo. Then later shaped by global icons such as Frankie Knuckles and Erick Morillo.
By 1991, he stepped into the professional scene with Black & White Productions under Alan Warman and Tommy Mack.
Ibiza Residencies & Global Recognition
Between 1991 and 1998, Mark became a regular fixture in Ibiza, performing at Pacha, Space, Amnesia, Privilege, El Divino, Es Paradis, Summum, Bora Bora, Café Mambo and Café del Mar — the latter hosting the island’s legendary pre-parties and sunset sessions.
In 1995 and 1996, he was a main resident at Privilege through Divine Productions, alongside Alan Warman and Steve Smith, establishing his international reputation.
He has performed worldwide in Russia, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Mykonos, Croatia, Basel (Switzerland), Cyprus, Turkey, and Dubai, including residencies with Kinky Malinky and Hedkandi.
London Breakthrough & Club Residencies
Back in London, 1993 marked his breakthrough at Legends on Old Burlington Street with Paul Dennis on Saturday nights and as one of the first residents at The Cross Club for Glitterati alongside Seb Fontaine & Luke Neville. Other residencies included Camden Palace, The Gass Club, Stringfellows, Epping Forest Country Club, Hollywood’s, Middlesex & Herts Country Club (Klass Promotions), Aquarium, Chunnel Club, and Velvet Underground.
In 1994, he played for Black & White Productions at the Black & White Ball at the Royal Albert Hall, hosted by Tommy Mack and Chris Quinten and became a resident at the iconic Bagley Film Studio’s for Saturday nights at Freedom whilst continuing to tour the UK at venues like Miss Moneypennies, Lakota,
2000s & Beyond – Touring, Radio & Festivals
In the early 2000s, Mark reunited with Mark Sampson (Bagley’s Film Studios / Freedom Nights) and became resident at Vanilla in Windsor, playing legendary nights such as Hedkandi, Kinky Malinky, Hat Club and Formula, also touring with Robbie Williams on the Close Encounters Tour in the UK.
Today, he runs Sondela in Guildford alongside Dj Simon Zwa (Kane FM) and Sarah Melon, broadcasts bi -weekly on London’s No1 station for Electronic Dance music, Select Radio, and continues to headline the UK’s popular events for House & Classics festivals, bringing four decades of passion to dance floors worldwide.
