It was a freezing winter evening when Craig first spotted Jake’s pirate radio aerial peeking out from the treetops like a rebellious flag in the middle of suburbia.
Naturally, Craig couldn’t resist stirring the pot. The radio station soon received a cryptic text from him, cryptic only because it read something like, “Nice aerial. I know where you are.” Jake, equal parts puzzled and alarmed, tried to figure out if he should laugh, worry, or both.
After an initially awkward introduction (and Jake making a mental note to double-check his aerial’s stability), Craig somehow managed to charm his way into the radio station crew. Jake had his doubts — Craig looked like the kind of guy who’d argue over whether pineapple belongs on pizza. But soon enough, Jake realized Craig was just as weird as he was. A tight, utterly bizarre bond was formed.
Before long, they were inseparable. You’d find them scouring London’s record shops, diving into bargain bins, and sweet-talking shop owners into revealing the “good stuff” hidden behind the counter. Jake was the methodical crate digger, and Craig had a knack for sniffing out aerials in unlikely places. Together, they were a chaotic force of nature.
With Craig’s knack for aerial hunting and Jake’s ability to install them in the most questionable of places, it only made sense to combine their powers. And so, their joint pirate radio empire was born.
The early days were wild — no structure was too tall or too wobbly for these two. They’d spend long nights sweating through technical disasters, laughing through setbacks, and sharing beers between climbs. They winged it, they survived it, and somehow, they thrived.
But, as with all things, time moved on. Pirate radio took a backseat as digital technology took over. Instead of hauling crates of records, they were swapping links and playlists. Their musical tastes expanded as they dove into every bass-driven genre under the sun: breakbeat, jungle, drum & bass, 140 BPM oddities — you name it, they were into it.
After two decades of madness and music, they found their home on Select.
And still, after all these years, the magic hasn’t changed. Whether DJing together or on the eternal hunt for the perfect track, Craig and Jake remain the same misfit duo — older, maybe wiser, but just as weird, wonderful, and bound by the music that started it all.
